Putting on makeup can be overwhelming for most. But once you get the hang of it and realize the beauty and the artistry that goes with it, you will get to appreciate the products, the tools, and the techniques that come with it.
That’s what I’ve learned way back when I was first exposed to makeup workshops, and MAC realized this need as well and has spearheaded the MAC Instant Artistry event that was set last June at The Block of SM City North EDSA. “Instant Artistry is really about showing our clients that makeup is simple and can be done in minutes. You don’t have to be a makeup to be able to put on makeup. All you need are the right tools and the right products, which do not have to be a lot — just two to four products and you’re done!” shared Gay Lao-Chen, General Brand Manager of MAC Cosmetics.
Having implemented this project in Brazil and China, the Philippines is the third to have the MAC Instant Artistry event. And it’s a first that comes with a selling area so that the customers can have instant access to the makeup products and tools as well. iPads will also be displayed, showing the easy makeup videos of the four MAC Instant Artistry looks, as demonstrated by the Director of Artistry, Gregory Arlt.
We were given a sneak preview of what the MAC team will be offering and we were quite surprised with the simplicity of the showcased makeup looks. “We chose to highlight these looks, because they represent the most basic face, which is the building block of any edgy or fashion forward look that MAC is commonly associated with. From there, clients can build up on it according to their preference and, eventually, expand their makeup repertoire,” added Chen.
MAC Certified Artist and Retail Operations Executive Odessa Andal introduced us to the four easy-to-pull-off clean looks when we were invited for a special one-on-0ne session in their head office, and shared some insider tips on how to make application fool-proof. Along with her tips are the youtube versions of the videos, to give you a better idea on how it’s done:
FLAWLESS SKIN IN A FLASH
Tip: “Starting with a clean face is a must. For the BB Cream to work its magic, make sure to apply thinly. A little goes a long way and will prevent product from leaving a white cast on your face. Having this base on will greatly help smoothen out the application of any product and also make your makeup last longer.”
QUICK BROWS
Tip: “Brush the brow hair first to their natural shape before filling them in. This will let you see where you should exactly apply the product to get your desired brow shape. Saves you time and the product itself.”
“The spooly brush on the otheer end of the Veluxe Brow Pencil, P1100, is all you need to keep brows strands in place and to blend color right in for a natural finish.”
THE PERFECT EYELINER
Tip: “Creating an eye liner that doesn’t disappear into the folds is truly challenging for most Asian eyes so my tip is to apply it with a fully opened eye for you to see where to draw the line. For hooded eyes, I suggest ending the liner about 3mm before the corner of the outer eye area and to do thicker liner from the mid portion to the end. This will give the eye a more lifted look.”
SOFT AND SIMPLE LIPS
Now, tell me, don’t these videos and tips make you want to try these techniques on your own? I did! And these are part of my makeup routine already 😉 It’s never too late to try them.
